Floyd Mayweather has offered to cover the funeral costs of George Floyd, the African-American man whose death in police custody in Minneapolis has sparked protests across the United States.
Mayweather Promotions, the former promotion company for the former five-division world champion, confirmed on Twitter that he made the offer, and several local media said the family had accepted.
Mayweather offered a cheque to George Floyd’s funeral home for $ 88,500.
Mayweather also paid for the funeral of Genaro Hernandez, his former opponent, and the legendary Joe Frazier in 2011.
Mayweather Promotions and the boxer’s agency have yet to respond to a request for comment.
