Burkina Faso’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Harouna Kabore, has become the 5th cabinet minister to test the coronavirus.

The American ambassador to Burkina Faso, Andrew Robert Young, also tested positive for the virus, as confirmed by a tweet he shared.

  The tweet reads:

Solidarity. I received a positive test for COVID-19. The U.S. Embassy has taken steps to quarantine affected community members. Our services to American citizens will thus continue our efforts to support GoBF against the virus.

In a tweet shared on Monday, March 23, Harouna Kabore said that he had quarantined himself at home after several people he had met tested positive for COVID-19.

  The tweet reads:

“The minister will continue his self-confinement at home although presenting no symptoms.
“He invites anyone who has been in contact with him lately to contact the health authorities.”

Four other ministers from Burkina Faso; the Minister of Education, the Minister of Territorial Administration, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Mines tested positive for the coronavirus on March 20. The government announced Friday a curfew from dusk to dawn throughout the territory and the closure of its borders.
